CITIES - sculptures and land art
Delft
The concept of this willow project of Lucien den Arend was to create two growing enclosures, one within the other. At first he planned to make two concentric circles, but the math dictated the solution: a square with sides of ten trees would leave four trees to make the central shape. And that means that a square is the only solution. Round figures are sometimes more important for the sculptor than round shapes. Possibly this was a part of his transition from flowing - round works to more rational ones.
