All the
participants were given a section of a trunk of a pine tree - in
Finnish kelo which is a pine
tree which has died, sometimes hundreds
of years ago, and remained standing
on its natural location for years after
that. The trunk has become silvery gray. Its wood has a very fine
grain as trees
grow slowly in the harsh climate above the polar circle.
This same climate preserves the wood perfectly.
Whereas most other
participants made only one work, I ended up with four sculptures. The
works are in the collection of the municipality of Kemijärvi. |
