CITIES - sculptures and land art

Vaasa

The municipality of Vaasa, Finland commissioned Lucien den Arend to make a sculpture for Onkilahti (Fisherman's bay) Park. The sculptor worked on the designs in 1997 and 1998. The two halves of the sculpture are half ellipses which are constructed to project themselves as half circles when viewed along the axis of the sculpture. At that position they close to form a complete circle. The long axis is six meters in length.

Around this time the sculptor did a sculpture for a roundabout in Heemskerk, Holland - in that work the contour of its Vaasa counterpart is taken as the main movement.
