Assen
The Dutch Ministry of Culture (CRM) initiated a traveling open air exhibition of contemporary sculpture - Beelden Buiten - Sculptures in the Open - in the city in 1974. The municipality of Assen provided one of the locations. The city purchased this bronze sculpture by Lucien den Arend which was exhibition. That same week the city council of Zwijndrecht, the sculptor's hometown, decided to purchase it also. So den Arend decided to propose that they take a variation of this work, called Discoid Form III.
